July 27, 2023 - The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont announced that Preci Manufacturing Inc. (Preci) has agreed to pay $150,000 to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by selling parts to the United States military that Preci failed to test, despite clear contract testing requirements meant to ensure the strength and durability of the parts.

Former Army Reservist Sentenced for Conspiracy to Commit Theft of Government Funds
June 16, 2023 - Former United States Army reservist Lynea Sanders was sentenced on June 15, 2023, to 3 years of probation, 150 hours of community service, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans. Pursuant to the Mandatory Victim Restitution Act, Chief Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown further imposed restitution of $21,780.18, which Sanders has already paid. Sanders previously pled guilty to conspiracy to commit theft of government funds, having stolen $21,780.18 from the United States Department of the Army by claiming reimbursement for the performance of military funeral honors ceremonies that never happened.

June 14, 2023 - U.S. Army Private First Class Cole Bridges Provided Tactical Guidance in Attempt to Help ISIS Attack and Murder U.S. Service Members in the Middle East. Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that COLE BRIDGES, a/k/a “Cole Gonzales,” pled guilty to attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and attempting to murder U.S. military service members based on BRIDGES’s efforts to assist the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (“ISIS”) to attack and kill U.S. soldiers in the Middle East. BRIDGES pled guilty today before U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman.

Women Veterans Day – Celebrating Special Agent Crystal Wallace’s Service to Country

Known to few, not even by women veterans themselves, Women Veterans Day is held annually on June 12 in recognition of the anniversary of the 1948 Women’s Armed Services Integration Act signing. This year is the 75th Anniversary of that legislation granting America’s military women a permanent place in the military.
One such veteran is Army Criminal Investigation Division’s Special Agent Crystal L. Wallace who proudly served the United States Army in uniform for 26 years. She joined, like so many others, just after Desert Storm erupted. With 87 percent of new recruits falling in the 18–24-year-old range, according to the DoD, she was not quite like the others as she turned 30 years old at basic training.

Johnson is charged by indictment, filed May 9, 2023, with distribution of fentanyl resulting in death and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, announced U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves, Special Agent in Charge Jarod Forget of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Division, and Special Agent in Charge Timothy Eckersley of the Army Criminal Investigation Division’s Washington Field Office.

May 10, 2023 - The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announces that Jimmy Holmes Nace, age 50, and Matthew Jennings Vermillion, age 44, both of Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, were sentenced for their roles in a homicide that occurred in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. Nace was sentenced to 180 months for Murder in Indian Country – Second Degree on May 4, 2023. Vermillion was sentenced to 102 months for Accessory After the Fact to the murder on March 27, 2023.

L3 Technologies Settles False Claims Act Allegations Relating to Double-Charging for Certain Material Costs
April 24, 2023 - L3 Technologies, Inc., Communication Systems West, a Utah-based manufacturer of communications equipment for military systems, has agreed to pay $21.8 million to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by knowingly submitting and causing the submission of false claims to the Department of Defense by including in contract proposals the cost of certain parts twice, the Department of Justice announced today.
