The Criminal Justice Information Department (CJID) encompasses all facets of the Army’s criminal justice information and crime records. CJID has access to multiple databases which support not only the U.S. Army, but foreign, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies as well.
CJID provides oversite of the Army’s criminal fingerprint submissions to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and manages submissions to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).
CJID is also responsible for providing training and policy guidance to Army CID Field Offices and serves as the central repository for law enforcement records related to the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division and the U.S. Army’s Military Police.
Requests
Important Note - CJID processes official requests only. CJID does not process expungement/amendment requests or requests from the media, personal requests, requests from next of kin, or from prosecutors and district attorney offices.

Official Request Requirements:
The request must be from Army Law Enforcement, Civilian Law Enforcement, or US Government Agency.
The request must be on an official agency letterhead, signed, and include:
• Subject’s full name, date of birth, and complete Social Security number, not providing the complete SSN may cause significant delays.
• Type of investigation and purpose of the request eg., Why you are seeking this information and how the information will be used.
Submit the request via email or fax (email is preferred) to ✉: Army CID CJID, FAX: 571-305-4155.
Requests from Army Law Enforcement may include:
• Military Protective Order entries, modification, and removals.
• National Criminal Information Center entries, modification, and removals.
• Backgrounds for Protective Services, Military Police Investigator, and Military Working Dog handlers.
• Criminal Fingerprint submissions.
• Drug and Alcohol Management Information System
Requests from Civilian Law Enforcement and US Government agencies may include:
• Suitability for access or continued access to classified information.
• Suitability for access to military installations or industrial firms engaged in government projects/contracts.
• Suitability for Army promotions, nominations, retirements, positions of significant trust (POSTA), SHARP, and specialized schools.
• Suitability for awards or similar benefits.
• Department of Veterans Affairs – Veterans claims, character determination, etc.
• Federal, State, and Local Government Agencies requesting a background check on an employee or applicant, or state licensing (non-law enforcement positions).
• Federal, State, and Local Child Protection Services or Family Support Agencies.
• Federal, State, and Local Agencies to comply with the Victim and Witness Assistance Program and the Victims' Rights and Restitution Act of 1990.
• Use in judicial or adjudicative proceedings including litigation or in accordance with a court order.
• Federal, State, and Local law enforcement agencies and private sector entities for the purposes of complying with mandatory background checks and the National Child Protection Act of 1993.
• Immigration and Naturalization Service, Department of Justice, for use in alien admission and naturalization inquiries.
• Backgrounds for civilian law enforcement employment.
• Concealed carry permit or National Crime Information Center firearms request.
• Sex Offender Registration Notification Act.
• Use of Force or Law Enforcement Officer Killed or Assaulted data.
