Executive Protection and Special Investigations is multi-functional and made up of two separate field offices.
Executive Protection Field Office
With over 400 assigned special agents, police officers, analysts, physical security specialists, and professional support personnel spread across three continents, the Executive Protection Field Office is the largest office within Army CID providing worldwide dignitary protection for the Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Secretary of the Army, Chief of Staff of the Army, and over a dozen other protectees in domestic and overseas locations.
Executive Protection also protects foreign counterparts during official visits to the United States, along with designated former or retired Department of Defense officials. Army CID’s dignitary protection mission is supported by robust protective intelligence and threat management investigative capabilities.
Special Investigations Field Office
The Special Investigations Field Office conducts worldwide criminal investigations involving Army special access programs, sensitive activities, special mission units, and suspected war crimes committed by foreign entities, along with significant transnational or multi-jurisdictional crime. The Special Investigations Field Office also provides the Department of Defense’s counterterrorism investigative support to the Military Commissions.
Priorities include preserving Army readiness, modernization, and the integrity of the most sensitive Army activities and operations by preventing and investigating:
• Loss of life, serious bodily injury, or other felony crimes
• Theft, fraud, compromise, or destruction of equipment, critical infrastructure and technology
• Transnational crime and related national security offenses
• War crimes committed by foreign entities
