Special Agent Peter J. Tolentino became the Deputy Director of the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division in February 2025. He serves as the Department of the Army’s independent criminal investigative authority, free of actual or perceived undue command influence, reporting directly to the Under Secretary of the Army. He oversees directorates which provide global support in the conduct of significant criminal investigations, protective service operations, forensics, and investigative support to military commissions. He maintains executive liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, and is responsible for training, personnel readiness, maintenance, and logistical support for no-notice deployment for Army, Joint, and combined contingency operations worldwide.
Prior to his selection as Deputy Director, Special Agent Tolentino joined the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (Army CID) in March 2023 as the Assistant Director of the Investigations and Operations Directorate (IOD) responsible for overseeing the agency’s criminal investigations and operations, including death, sexual assault, narcotics, economic crimes, and national security criminal investigations; and is responsible for manning, training, and equipping of personnel, as well as the execution of major criminal investigative activities, both proactive and reactive, for the Department of the Army.
Special Agent Tolentino served as a Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) for over 20 years, beginning his federal law enforcement career in September 2002.
Special Agent Tolentino earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (Pre-Law) from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. He has received numerous achievement awards and honors, including the Secretary of Defense Global War on Terrorism Medal, the United States Central Command Joint Civilian Achievement Award and Medal, and the Department of the Army Commander’s Award for Public Service.
