Special Agent Gregory Ford became the first civilian Director of the Department of the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division, in September 2021, the Department of the Army’s independent criminal investigative authority, free of actual or perceived undue command influence, reporting directly to the Under Secretary of the Army.
Director Ford oversees a global agency responsible for felony criminal investigations and operations; war crimes and terrorism investigations; criminal intelligence collection and analysis; cybercrime investigations and operations; multi-dimensional forensics support; and, protective service operations for the Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Department of the Army senior leaders.
Prior to his selection as Director, Special Agent Ford was promoted to the Senior Executive Service in December 2018 and has over 20 years of Federal service.
Director Ford's previous leadership positions include Deputy Director of Operations, Naval Criminal Investigative Service (2020-2021); Executive Assistant Director for Criminal Investigations and Operations, NCIS (2018-2020); Assistant Director for Criminal Investigations (2016-2018); Special Agent in Charge (2014-2016) and Assistant Special Agent in Charge (2013-2014), Southeast Asia Field Office, Singapore; Assistant Special Agent in Charge (2011-2012), NCIS Office of Special Projects, Washington, D.C.; and Supervisory Special Agent (2010-2011), NCIS Office of the Inspector General, Washington, D.C.
Director Ford began his career with NCIS in 2004. Prior to that he served in the IRS-Criminal Investigation Division, Washington, D.C. and on the FBI Washington, D.C. Field Office’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Director Ford earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College, and graduated in Session 42 from the FBI National Executive Institute (2019). He has received numerous awards, including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the Commonwealth of Virginia Law Enforcement Officer Award.
