First Sergeant Pierce was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On 8 August 1991, 1SG Pierce entered the United States Army Acquiring the military occupational specialty (MOS) 74C, Telecommunications Center Operator.  1SG Pierce served as a 74C for five years and then transitioned to MOS 31B, Military Policeman in 1996 and remained in that field until becoming a Special Agent with the U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Command (USACIDC) in 1 December 2001.

1SG Pierce holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. His military education includes Primary Leadership Development Course (CL), Senior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course (CL), Master Gunner Certification, Law Enforcement Handgun Tech Course, Protective Service Training, Protective Security Detail Advanced Firearms, Advanced Crimes Scene Investigative Techniques, Sexual Assault Investigations, Crisis / Hostage Negotiations, Criminal Antiterrorism and Police Intelligence, Inspector General Course, Counterintelligence Applied Analysis Course.

1SG Pierce’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal with (3 OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with (3 OLC), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (7), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal. He also earned the German Schutzenschnur (Bronze), Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge, Joint Meritorious Unit Award.
