Command Sergeant Major, 6th Military Police Group (CID)
Command Sergeant Major Henry James II was born in Buffalo, N.Y. and entered the Army in February 1991. He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, KY and graduated as a 19D Cavalry Scout.
CSM James has served in numerous leadership and staff positions in the Army. His assignments include Sergeant Major, 19th MP Battalion (CID) (Afghanistan); Group Operations Sergeant, 3d MP Group (CID), Fort Gillem, GA; First Sergeant, Benning MP Battalion (CID), Fort Benning, GA; Operations Sergeant, DoD-CITF, Guantanamo, Cuba; Detachment Sergeant, Baumholder, Germany; Detachment Sergeant, 515th MP Battalion (CID) (Kosovo); Criminal Investigator, Giessen, Germany; Bradley Commander, 3d ACR, Fort Carson, CO; and Cavalry Scout, 2d ACR, Fort Polk, LA.
CSM James’ military and civilian education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System; Reconnaissance System Specialist Course; First Sergeant Course, Sergeants Major Course Class #62; Apprentice Special Agent Course; Protective Services Training Course; Advanced Crime Scene Investigative Techniques Course; Hostage Negotiation Course; Child Abuse Prevention and Investigative Techniques Course; Leadership Team Awareness Course and various other professional development courses. He holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from Excelsior College.
CSM James’ awards, decorations, and honors include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (1 silver oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), the Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award), the National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Star), the Kosovo Campaign Medal (Bronze Star), the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeric 4), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeric 4), the United Nations Mission in Haiti Medal, the NATO Kosovo Medal, the NATO Service Medal Afghanistan, the Army Superior Unit Award, and the Combat Action Badge.
